Flood Response

The Kansas Water Office is a State Emergency Operations Center support partner providing many crucial components such as technical support, reservoir and stream monitoring as well as communication with local stakeholders.

The lead agency for flooding in Kansas is the Kansas Division of Emergency Management (KDEM) and is where the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) is located. Other primary flood support partners are Kansas Department of Transportation - KanDrive for road closures due to flooding, Office of the State Fire Marshal, Kansas Department of Children and Families and Kansas Highway Patrol.


Incident Statement

The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) is activated to monitor conditions and provide coordination support as needed due to flooding and potential severe weather impacting multiple jurisdictions. The SEOC operations maintain situational awareness and coordinate state assistance to augment local response and recovery efforts. Information will be updated with current information as conditions warrant.

2019 Flood Information

Record elevations and storages in reservoirs in central and eastern Kansas are shown below. Half of these reservoirs hit record elevations in 2019, storing water to reduce downstream flooding. To learn more about Kansas reservoir operations please visit our reservoirs page.
