South Fork Republican River Funding Available for Producers

The Kansas Water Office is now accepting applications for cost share of irrigation technologies within the South Fork Republican River Basin in Kansas.

Funding for these cost-share opportunities is provided from a settlement signed in 2018 between Colorado and Kansas totaling $4 million to resolve any disputes over Colorado’s past use of water under the Republican River Compact prior to 2013. Of that total sum, $2 million is to be spent within the South Fork of the Republican River Basin within Colorado. The additional $2 million will be spent for the benefit of the South Fork of the Republican River Basin within Kansas. This is the second year for this program to be offered to producers in the basin.

Many irrigation technologies are eligible through this program which include but are not limited to: soil moisture probes; mobile-drip irrigation; sub-surface drip irrigation; pivot control systems; electrical conductivity soil field mapping; aerial imagery; variable rate irrigation; and/or weather stations. Producers interested in participating in the cost-share program are encouraged to contact Keadron Pearson with the Kansas Water Office for more information.

Applications can be found online at www.kwo.ks.gov, and will be accepted through April 07. You can email them to keadron.pearson@kwo.ks.gov, or mail to the Kansas Water Office at 900 SW Jackson Street, Suite 404, Topeka, KS 66612
