The Verdigris Region has four federal reservoirs, including the most recently built reservoir that is part of the Water Marketing Program, Big Hill Lake. There are many recreational opportunities in the region, and the region is also known to provide habitat for several species of threatened and endangered mussels. The presence of mussels
generally indicates good water quality since they are not able to move easily from one habitat to another.
